Interesting Places in Malaysia

Batu Caves

Batu Caves is a tourist attraction place which located near Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia. It is famous of it's Hindu shrines and the primary deity- Murugan (The world tallest statue of Murugan deity, about 140 feet high). In order to reach the temple which is located inside the cave, visitors are required to climb 272 concrete steps (and it is quite exhausting). There are plenty of stalls selling religious things located at the top and bottom of Batu Caves. Batu Caves is also a "territory" for monkeys and most of them will stay near to the visitors trying to get some foods. I had visited Batu Caves for twice and taken some pictures to share with you all.

Pavilion
Most high class shopping complex in Malaysia. Themes changed due to different seasons or celebrations. I went to there for about 4 times and had a great time with friends at there. Pavilion provides us great shopping atmosphere. The pictures below are showing Christmas theme and the decoration was really awesome.

Sunway Pyramid

One of the best shopping complex in Malaysia. Its most unique entertainment is ice skating. Ice skating field is crowded with people especially teenagers during public holidays. Once you have paid for the entrance fee, you will be provided with ice skating shoes and gloves and you can skate as long as you want.

Rearing pets

I am  insect and animal lover especially water living animals. I had caught hundreds of grasshoppers, beetles, spiders and  lizards during my childhood. Actually, there are plenty species of grasshopper. Some of them are tame, while some of them are "dreadful" (with powerful thorny hind legs that can pierce into your skin when you are holding its legs and there is a species of grasshopper which has big, reddish mouth that can bite anything).

Besides that, I also start rearing fishes since I was a kid. I rear Ikan Puyu (a type of fish that can be caught from small drain in Malaysia). Ikan Puyu is a fish that has strong survivability but it does not have attracting colour and it is quite fierce.
Advantages of rearing Ikan Puyu: Does not require frequent feeding and changing dirty water
Disadvantages of rearing Ikan Puyu: Boring, not attractive and fierce.

Peacock fish is another type of fish that i rear the most. This small fish can be caught from small drain in Malaysia.
Advantages of rearing Peacock fish: Attractive, does not require frequent changing of dirty water. Disadvantages of rearing peacock fish: Weak survivability, only can feed on small fish pellets due to small mouth.

Koi fish is the fish that I have the most in my aquarium. This species of fish has plenty of colour, ranging from white, yellow, orange, red to black. This type of fish is widely available in pet shop and some of them are being sold as a food for larger fishes.
Advantages of rearing Koi fish: Attractive, strong survivability.
Disadvantages of rearing Koi fish: Require frequent feeding and aquarium pump

Recently, I started rearing brazil tortoise (turtle red-ear slider). This little creature is quite cute and brings you a lot of fun.
Advantages of rearing turtle red-ear slider: Entertaining, active
Disadvantages of rearing turtle red-ear slider: Require good quality water and of course care

St John Badges

I joined St. John Ambulance Malaysia for about 5 years when I was studying in my secondary school. Throughout these 5 years, I had received some badges (about 15) and promoted to Lance Corporal. The image below is the badges (Cadet Proficiency Awards) that I obtained.

The first badge(starting from top left) is Knowledge of The Order. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to memorize the history and origins of St John Ambulance England and Malaysia.

The second badge(beside Knowledge of The Order) is Anti-Drug Abuse. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to submit a folio of how to fight and prevent drug abuse (guideline is provided).

The third badge is Cookery and Nutrition. I passed the test by cooking in Non-Commissioned Officer Camp and it is quite easy.

The fourth badge is Casualty Simulation. This test is the hardest test that I had gone through so far.  In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to make fake bruise and blood by using specific ingredients and colouring. After that, we were asked to apply it on our partner and the officer in charged will test whether the fake bruise and blood "work" or not.

The fifth badge is Citizenship. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to submit a census of population in the place that we lived.

The sixth badge is Communication with Deaf/Blind. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to learn basic sign language.

The seventh badge is Map Reading & Navigation. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to join a camp that organized by St John which has treasure hunt game and draw a map of distance between two nearest cities.

The eighth badge is Fire Fighting & Prevention. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to learn how to use fire extinguisher, how to escape during emergency and how to save people during emergency.

The ninth badge is Caring for Children. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to learn some nursing skills.

The tenth badge is Outdoor Pursuit. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to join a camp organized by St John that has mountain climbing activity.

The eleventh badge is Accident Prevention. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to submit a folio of how to prevent accident.

The last badge is Home Skills. In order to pass the test to get this award, we are required to design a small project that can be used at home in daily life.

The badge at the bottom is Stripe. In order to get this badge, we must be active and take part in almost all the activities organized by St. John Ambulance and pass some tests.

The red-coloured badge below is Special Service Shield. We are required to duty for 100 hours and I had spent almost 3 years to accumulate 100 hours of duty to get this special badge.
